A quality Kindergarten program prepares your child for school in a play-based environment. At Tinana Kindy we embrace the essence that is childhood allowing children to develop lifelong knowledge and skills through good old-fashioned fun. We are advocates for child wellbeing through nature and offer a Bush Kindy program which includes real tools, building shelters, fire experiences, rope play and natural loose parts.
Children participate in teacher-led and child-initiated learning experiences that follow a general routine of outdoor time, group time for focused learning and language development, indoor play and activities, group music/dance time and rest. Learning and development occurs through play, investigations, real life situations, routines and focused learning. This includes the daily obstacle course, gardening, art and craft, cooking, dancing, music, dress-ups and more. Influenced by the children’s interests and needs, many activities are based around a particular theme. We enjoy a variety of excursions and incursions to provide authentic and engaging learning experiences.
Through these learning experiences, children develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. Each day, they are building literacy and numeracy knowledge, learning to take turns and cooperate with others, gaining independence and resilience, developing their fine and gross motor skills and solving problems.
The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline is used to develop the program and monitor children’s learning and development throughout the year. For more information about Kindergarten programs in Queensland, please visit the Queensland Government Early Childhood Education and Care website.
Parental involvement in the kindergarten program is actively encouraged. The kindergarten has a parent roster system where parents spend one day each term at the service. Roster days allow parents to observe and support their child’s learning experience.
Our pre-prep program operates 8.45am to 2.45pm Monday to Friday except for public holidays. Tinana Kindy caters for two groups of up to 25 children each week during the Queensland school terms. Each group attends the service five days each fortnight (30 hours). The Possums attend Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays. The Turtles attend Thursday, Friday and alternate Wednesdays.
